I am doing CV 3 times a week for 45-60 mins and weight training 2 times a week. Over the last year I have managed to lose 10lbs...But now have hit that plateau such that I now have this "tyre" effect around my middle. I appreciate being on the wrong side of 40 doesn't help this but someone HELP!!! I need to shift this fat!! I am eating well and the right stuff ie brown rice, off the white wheat, more oats, vegetables, less suger. I have until the end of June 2005. Please any suggestions.

Foth-I am doing 50-100 stomach crunches (its what I call them) they are not a full sit up but I am not stopping on the floor completetly they are quite small movements. In your opinion should I be doing the full sit up or is what I am doing going to help as well. I am not huge but would like to try and tone.
Thanks

Your best bet would be doing interval training twice per week. Spread it out so you 'd have enough time to recover.

Thank you all and Dennyboy I have the same alcohol problem I love a glass of wine and with kids I just need that wind down at the end of the day!! Sometimes I opt for a peppermint tea but it just doesn't taste as good!!! I have cut out most white rice and bread. But how long should it take to see a change 1-2 weeks? more?
OK I have started walking outside I manage about 5km in approx 50mins on inclines and declines. What I am finding is that my heart rate is not going up and staying up consistently as it does if I go on a treadmill. But I am not sure whether to continue with this or go back to the treadmill....

I think the problem you are experiencing is that your body adapts to the exercise and unless you keep increasing the intensity you will not get further results.
I have read, and from experience, that if you sprint then walk then sprint that you will keep pushing the envelope (you have to sprint near full out until tired) and you will increase your bodies metabolism. If you jog you have to keep increasing your times or distance something most people are probably not up to... with sprinting you can only run say 100m - 200m full out so you can exhaust yourself easily...
I used to jog 4-5km and found I peaked out and was too lazy/had not time to increase on that. Started the sprint - walk strategy and if I hit it 3x/week, there are noticeable differences

Forest, are you on Neera's payroll? A glance at the website did not convince me. Sounds very much like one more scam to part fools from their money. What makes "palm syrup" such a miracle product? Syrups are bi-products of all sugar refining processes -- think molasses, corn syrup, which cost pennies. You can buy lemons anywhere. Or does this product contain "magic" lemons? If anyone has any fabulous success stories with this product or any other of its kind, please tell me -- I'll be happy to be proven an old cynic.

well said. Perhaps everytime someone ask this ridiculous 'lose weight quick' question, we cut and paste Dannyboy's reply.

A few of you here have described almost exactly the 'Body for Life' program. I think some of the principles are pretty standard, but anyone needing motivation or proof that it works, check out the website www.bodyforlife.com.
I originally went from about 85kg to 75kg about 5 years ago using this method, and bulked up quite a bit so god knows how much fat I lost. I am still a gym regular, I just think if you start hard core for a few months, even if you slack off you are still much more health
conscious.
I have been gyming most days still for the past few years, but got a bit of flab creeping up on me. My fiance and I are now one month into the hard core program (meaning egg white omlette's, brown rice and all that) at the moment and I have already dropped 2 belt sizes. I am basically copying one of the champions routine from the website. 2 months to our wedding and if all goes to plan we will be in peak form!
