Abortion in Hong Kong

I can't say for Hong Kong, I had one in Shanghai. I went to a local women's hospital. It was crowded and not private. It was, however, cheap, and I had no difficulties. I wouldn't advise a local hospital in Shanghai.... I would say to go to a foreigner's hospital... I imagine things are fairly similar in Hong Kong....

I paid 490 RMB. I have no idea what the average price is though, (or if I over/under paid). I'm sure the type of hospital you have it done at is a factor in the price..

Oh, the clinic in Wanchai just next to teh station Family Planning - Wanchai Clinic G/F, 8/F and 9/F, Southorn Centre, Wanchai, Hong Kong

It is $1500 if you are a resident and $2000 if you are not....

You have to listen to a tape etc....and i would go now because they have a very small time restriction and they count ten weeks at teh limit from your last period...not at the point you became pregnant...

Am surprised to find this thread - maybe cathartic for me...my gf dragged me to SZ hospital last year for her 'procedure' - worst experience of my life - what could I do, I didn't support the decision, but I loved her and she would just go alone, so I had to support her- I couldn't not go. It was awful - about 10 girls in one room waiting for the 'medicine' to take effect. It didn't work for my gf and they dragged her off for, how can I say...'cleaning surgically' they wouldn't let me in, but I went anyway to be with her and make sure they didn't do anything 'untoward' - what would I know anyway? I was so helpless and useless. They treated her like processed cheese - get 'them' through at all costs - no care, horrible. It was a surgical procedure, but not the way you would expect, no prep, no 'proper' actions, but I wouldn't know I guess, just didn't seem right to me at all! Cost was about $900RMB but I got the distinct impression it was who you were and what time of day that determined the fee. I wish I had known some of the information above about HK. The whole few months, including the 'termnation' was all so very sudden and terrifying, and shocking. I have taught PD and know (hmmm)'everything' and still I had no firm idea of options in HK.(legal position/medicines available/options/counselling etc. HK doctors (x2)said there were no options, only conclude the pregnancy and lectured ad nauseum about the moral issues. Sickening. (their attitude to the issue, not thier position - I agreed mostly!)I was pretty desperate and so was she - guess that was what led to the whole SZ option. Anyhow, this is hard to relate, lots missed out, very emotional even now thinking about it; also I know I am not the focus of this particular forum, but I suggest gives another perspective - certainly awful on both parties in this case in SZ. Anyway - hope this might help anyone who may be in similar situation - that's the purpose of posting - it can be the most 'alone' and helpless you feel in your life, even though you have 3 post-tertiary degrees, and feel ready for anything - not quite! The 2 teenagers who dual suicided recently claimed pregnancy was the reason - I know how they felt and I'm more than double their age! That's the SZ experience - objectively 'successful' but awful awful awful experience/memory.

If you decide to go to Dr. Jenny Ng, check out her background.

She was in the newspaper a few years ago because of a complication in a procedure that she did.

I recall reading that the woman died.

Abortions can be done legally in Hong Kong. Any hospital that is not associated with any religious establishment (eg: you would NOT be able to have an abortion at St. Paul's Hospital) would be able to perform one, as would a government hospital - the cheapest option. At a private hospital, ie: Central Hospital, it will cost you much more, however, the facilities & the courtesy of the staff will reflect this.
