From my point of view I check emails all the time but don't necessarily respond at that time. Maybe it's just me but I feel 90% of the emails are just "chats" that don't require an immediate response. It's just the way the world has gone nowadays.
Same with cell phones, we have no personal space anymore as people in HK think nothing of calling late at night - in my country you call after 21:00 and it's an emergency. I never understand why people in HK call someone and if it's unanswered they don't leave a message. Can't be that impt. and it means people just calling for something to do. Watch people on the MTR - just playing with their phones because they feel bored or alone. Just calling anyone for the sake of it.

Maybe some of us have a full time job, a family and would like to see the sun sometimes. I check my email every few days, when my baby is asleep and I'm not too exhausted. I reply whenever I can. I have an email address mainly to keep in touch with my friends and family in the US. Some people prefer to be attached to their computers. Others don't. For those who are upset that friends don't reply right away, call them on the phone!

Ahm I love this discusison. Let me add this to the mix for response.
--- My company essentially 'requires' everyone to have and consistently access their e-mail and cell phone text messages, however, they do not offer any type of mobile service nor internet provider contract as part of our salary package. They DO have computers at the central office for us to use, alas, they hire us out all over the peninsula and island so rarely come within the area of the office.
Is this fair of the company to do?

I hate that when I ask a question regarding certain service providers' services, they do not respond to me until one or even two weeks later!!! For me, I make sure that I respond to my clients within 24 hours and 48 hours max, unless there are weekends or public holidays in-between!!!
