Hi there, I have 4 months old baby but still appear to be 7 months pregnant. Infact much more. My diet is quite controlled. Infact I have more of fruits(apples and oranges). And lots of water. I am also exercising(walks and toe touch).I am unable to go out much besides the strolls I take my baby for. I do on spot jogging while talking to my baby. I put her in her bouncer. Can any of you advice what should be the right step in reducing my weight.

I have been told 9(10) months on, 9(10) months off - some of the weight is needed fat for breast feeding, some is water retention and it takes time for your ligaments/bones to move back (ie, hips, finger joints).
There are lots of websites listing exercises you can do at home with your baby, here is one:
http://www.babycentre.co.uk/fitness
It sounds like you are doing all the right things, just keep eating healthy, drinking lots and exercising and you will get there!

Thanks crj I just saw those exercises. Its good but tell me can I not just get away with all those and just do jogging and toe touching. After all loosing weight is the focus.

While you might think you look 7 months pregnant... you probably don't (unless you were very tiny at 7 months!)- it is amazing what we think we look like compared to what others actually see... ask a good friend who will be honest with you, and check the scale.
I have a 5 week old... I am in the same situation and know I should be hiking and exercising every day, but I am too darn tired/busy! I am currently wearing the same clothes I wore the 3rd and 4th month of pregnancy.
I just keep telling myself 9 (10) months on, 9 (10) months off...
Friends have told me it all goes away except the last 10-15 lbs, those you really need to exercise off.
Also you really need to exercise to get the stomach tone and arse/thighs back to shape.... But I am no where near to thinking about that yet... well, I do think (fantasise) about it, just not ready to take action ;)
I plan to hike, walk, swim and eventually take pilates again (today, I don't think I could even do one stomach crunch if I had to). I have already started walking a bit and can't believe how completely out of shape I am... it will be a long slow road to fitness (and fitting in to my old jeans)
are you breast feeding?
I know that if you are breastfeeding you need to take care not to diet too much - so maybe you can ask your doctor or midwife for advice that is more tailored to your needs? Or a personal trainer or pilates/yoga instructor?
Good luck, and don't worry, just stay focused on eating and living healthy and doing what exercise you can with your baby.

i didn't get very big to begin with and post pregnancy was so overwhelming for me i think i lost whatever weight i needed to lose from the stress!
bub is now 5 months old - since he was 2 months old, we take daily walks in the late afternoon....and i don't mean 15 mins walk, seriously we usually go out from 3-5.30pm and save for a coffee break, i am walking all the time...i hate doing "real" exercises so this is a workout for me!

My baby is about 18 weeks and I still have about 7lbs to lose before I can get back into my old clothes. I have no helper so I go for a 20 min jog in the evenings whilst hubby babysits. If I can remember, I do stomach crunches during one of his naps.
I started about a month ago and whilst it went well for a couple of weeks, I hardly went jogging last week due to the bad weather and laziness, so will have to start again this week :)
I really hope it won't take me 9 months to lose all the weight as I've been living in my baggy t-shirts and yoga trousers as I can't fit into anything else. I think I can still fit into a few of my jeans, but my tops are a no go. It's my arms, I can give sumo wrestlers a run for their money! ha ha

i find drinking two large glasses of water FIRST THING in the morning helps, just seems to flush the system out. I also found that it was quite a while, 3 mths PP before i started to see a difference in my weight then it would start to come off in big amounts. I am still loosing weight now 6mths on again it's a kg at a time but still don't quite fit into my prepregnancy clothes. I don't do any regular excercise or get to the gym.

32 points is just a guide and not for everyone on WW. I eat arount 25 points and still producing plenty of milk for my bub. You just have to find whats right for you for steady weight loss without it affecting your milk supply. Sharon at HK WW at YWCA is a great support.

Well I lost all my post-pregnancy weight at 6 months. I'm even fitter now than before pregnancy... I don't know if it comes from breastfeeding or babywearing... But one thing for sure, I still eat like crazy! (More than my husband actually, who is quite the heavy eater).
Sorry, not much of a help, huh?

I've been eating more now that I'm breastfeeding than when I was pregnant booohoooo. I fit into my 3 month clothes, but the stomach still shows. I tried exercising but bubbs wakes at 3 for a feed and I really need the sleep in the morning. Now I'm back at work I hope I'm more disciplined in my eating. I'm not fat by any means, but definitely not the slimmest person either. If think I could about 4 kgs I'd be in heaven!! Then I'd have 38C boobs and 38 inch hips yaaay!

Be patient. I found my weight with first baby was slow to shift and then between 8 and 10 months it just fell off without much effort on my part (I was still breastfeeding).
Also, realistic. Not everyone gets the same body back, ever (unless you have plastic surgery). There might be some loose skin which prevents you getting back to the same shape, even when you have regained your prepregnancy weight. At least that is what happened to me. I found the fat which used to be stored on my bum moved to my waistline! The lucky ones get their old body back but the rest of us have to adjust our self-image, and/or our wardrobes. It's a badge of motherhood I guess! Pilates does help to improve posture which can streamline the figure immensely.

My gal is 6 months old and I still have 4 more kg to lose to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I thought the task of taking care of baby with lesser sleep and appetitite would help me lose weight but it doesn't seem to be the case. Started going to the gym and run on the treadmill for 30 to 45 min every other day for one month, still no effect. I don't eat much so what is my problem???? How long more do I need to run ? It's so tiring...No motivation when the scale is not moving : (

Pisces74,
Keep at it - it sounds like you have the motivation and it will come off - there are just a few things people ought to remember:
1) Muscle weighs more than fat - as you start to exercise, the fat that gets burned off gets replaced by growing muscle fibre, which enables you do increase your strength and stamina. Therefore, while you feel like you are not shifting your weight, you are indeed changing the composition of your weight. A far more accurate measure of how well you are doing is to take measurements - waist, hips, thighs, upper arms etc. Have you not found that your clothes are looser on you after doing all that running?
2) You may also want to step up the intensity of your running or change your equipment in the gym. The human body is a clever machine. As it gets used to the exercise and knows what it has to do, it then holds back and expends less and less energy to do the task. Therefore, sometimes by increasing speed (even for short periods), changing to another machine ie rowing, going to a different workout class can help the body use up some extra energy.
3) For a proper weight loss programme - 5-6 times a week of exercise is more ideal. Do the alternate days on the crosst trainer or take a class
4) Body core / Weight training also helps increase the muscle fibre. Muscle fibres use up more energy even when idle. Core training is important in toning up the tummy, back. You don't need to do heavy weights - just enough to tone up.
FYI, my son is now 9 months old and I put on over 40lbs during my pregnancy despite exercising well throughout. My body shape has changed (pregnancy does that) but have lost all the weight. It wasn't easy but you just have to keep at it! Good luck!

Thanks Squiggles, I think you are right, my body is probably used to that kind of running. I used to go for Bodycombat classes regularly before my pregnancy. It took me a while to get back to running again but I did feel that my stamina has improved after running for 2 weeks. I'll take your suggestion, to try out other machines at the gym and to increase the intensity at the treadmill. But for fat lost, it seems that I should not run too fast (according to the machine), should I maintain my heartbeat at a certain level or can I increase the intensity such that my heartbeat goes up to cardio level ?
I would love to go back to Bodycombat classes but I find it a bit troublesome having to travel to the gyms in town to attend these workout classes. They do conduct yoga classes at the gym at my estate. Hey, any idea if Yoga will help to lose weight ? I know about destressing and increasing flexibility but how about weight lost through yoga? Though I still prefer exercise classes such as kickboxing...

Pisces74,
A machine is a machine but every human is different. I think you should run however fast you are comfortable with - as for your heartrate, here's the thing: everyone's heartrate is different. Many years before heart rate monitors were invented people exercised to the scale of 'perceived exertion' meaning that they had to judge for themselves how hard they were working. And they all coped ok. A more recent measure would be the heart rate target zone calculation using statistics such as your age and resting heart rate (simnple formula on paper). And people still coped ok. Heart rate monitors and monitors on machines are sometimes followed too closely - and possibly wrongly. They don't take into account high resting heart rates, age, fitness etc....for example, I have a very high resting heart rate and I know that when I run my heart rate goes up to levels which a machine would say would be dangerous, but I would just be jogging. I just train to how I feel. And I encourage people to do the same.
Yoga is good for toning and some say to lose weight. It is a good supplementary exercise as it increases flexibility whereas other exercises tend to decrease it, but it doesn't do much for stamina and the aerobic element which is needed to maintain a healthy heart. I know when I do certain types of yoga (power, ashtanga) I am sweating buckets so it does burn off some caories but I suppose it depends on the type. But yes, if you have the time you should definitely do it.
