My almost three year old has just started to breathe thru her mouth (particularly at night). She had her adenoids removed due to sleep apnea about a year ago. She has not had any trouble whatsoever with tonsils. Any ideas? She sounds congested, like she has a cold and has no known allergies. She is certainly not at all unwell at the moment. Could it be the pollution? Any advice, links, suggestions appreciated.

Proberly a good idea to take her to your GP and get her checked for allergies and asthma. Dont be alarmed though some kids and adults just naturally are mouth breathers. GOOD LUCK.

Wendy,
My son's tonsils swelled hugely "kissing" exactly one-year after his adenoids were removed. We tried cutting out foods, reducing allergens, etc.... Eventually, he also had his tonsils removed.

Hi Namaste
how old was youre son.....do you think it is better to have them both removed at the same time

Hi clueless, my small one had her adenoids out when she was two. Years ago (in my generation!), tonsils were routinely removed with adenoids and vice versa. My daughter's ENT advised against removing her tonsils as she had no infections there but even so, would have been reluctant to do so unless they were particularly enlarged. They are still a line of immunity defence. By the way, our pediatrician advised against removal of adenoids.

Hi Wendy
Why did you decide to have them removed when there was no infection, despite what youre ped recommended....
My son has had sleep apnea for the past 2 weeks, which has now totally cleared up, so I am a bit confused about whether to go ahead or not. My doc has said that when he gets another infection, there is a great chance that the sleep apnea will return.
