I am looking for some information about british schools in singapore. Notably Tanglin Trust School, Dover Court and Eton House. I have two kids aged 4.5 and 2, my 4 year old would start reception in September, my 2 yr old would join a nursery/playgroup. Whilst I have had a look at each school's website I would like to know what other parents think. Thanks in advance.

GlanAber, I have children in the infant school at Tanglin. Generally we have been very happy with the school, my children certainly have been. It is a fairly big school (nursery to Y2 is approx 700 children) but playtimes and areas are well structured so that the year groups are all separated. The facilities are excellent. They stick very rigidly to the British National Curriculum and can be a little inflexible and staid generally. But I think my kids are getting a very solid start educationally and they have a Learning Support Department which gives extra help to the children who need it. Most of the teachers are great and very dedicated - a bit of luck of draw with any school sometimes. I guess my biggest criticism of the reception year is that some of the teachers can be hard on little boys who are not ready to sit still all the time yet!

It is a non profit organisation so all the money goes back into the school if that is important to you - a number of schools here are privately owned business. I cannot comment on the other schools, although I know parents who have been very happy with them as well. Will you get the chance to come and have a look for yourself? I think gut feeling (mothers instinct) counts for a lot.

There is a Singapore forum where you will probably get a greater response - but be warned, it can be a lot less civilised and polite than this one especially with regards to requests for information on schools! www.expatsingapore.com

Good luck with your move.

Thnx for your very useful informtaion. We have had this ongoing hong kong/singapore debate going for a while and it still isn't resolved! It is very helpful to have your input though as I will be prepared when that final decision gets made!
