My sister had this problem with her primary school kids - they wouldn't take tablets either. She used to crush the tablets in some food or drink. Or if it's a capsule, just open it and pour the contents into food or drink. She found that food hid the flavour better than drink.
However, your problem might also be finding tablets/capsules that contain doses for small children. Can you hide the liquid antibiotics in some favourite foods (eg. dessert).

Although I was a bit older my wonderful grandmother taught me to do it by using a straw. The pill went on the tongue and sucking something yummy hard through a straw just forced it down - worth a try. Good luck!

Ha! Embarrassing I know, but I didn't learn to swallow pills till I was about 22. Before that I just broke them up into tiny pieces but still gagged while trying to swallow them - till I read in a magazine that washing the pill down with a water bottle rather than a glass helps to open up the throat (or something like that) and so makes swallowing pills easier. It's tried and tested - I have had no problems swallowing pills since!

My mother taught me to chew some food, like a cracker, and keep it on my tongue, then put the pill on the mushy food, then swallow.
In my 20's I finally learned to take a pill with water, but my mother is in her 70's and still uses the above method.
A friend's baby kept spitting up the baby paracetemol or projectile vomiting it... after going to the doctor, she found out the baby was allergic!
Of course, 3 is too young for my mother's method.
Your popsicle idea is very clever, so is the straw game idea, it will be interesting to hear what the doctor says.
