Anybody got positive or negative things to say about grommets as a treatment for recurrent ear infections in a 19 month old?

My son had grommets put in and his tonsils out last August. He is 4 and is a different child for having it done. We had it done in Sydney by a top surgeon, however I do have a name of a surgeon here who is supposed to be great. He was recomended to me by my surgeon for my sons follow up appointments as we were moving to Hong Kong. Truly, there was no bother what so ever. I can say it was a very positive process for all in our family, especially my son. The fluid in their ears can become so thick that it reduces hearing, which in turn can create a unhappy, irritable, frustrated child.

Hi, my 10mth old had grommets in 8 weeks ago (he was 101/2 mths and is now 13) and is a different baby. Sleeps, eats and does everything so much better. Is much happier and calmer. Even others have commented on it. He had had 5 ear infections in 5 months - all in the same ear. Both ears showed hearing loss - the left much more so and there was thick glue in both ears when they were drained before the grommets went in. I could go right into the operating room with him and stayed till he went under - very simple and he was back in my arms 15 mins later! We were home from hospital before lunch. I think it is great and well worth doing. Good luck. Our dr was Dr Alex Li. All the best sara

Our daughter (now nearly 5) had grommets put in and adenoids removed after nearly 2 years of ear infections and antibiotics. Best move we've made! She's been well and infection free for over a year now. Dr Thondup put us in touch with Alexander Choy - wonderful. We had it done at the Ruttonjee in Happy Valley. The whole experience was pain free and simple. Our daughter has been so much happier! On another note, when do these grommmets fall out? She's had them in for nearly 16 months now!
