Baby Swimming Attire

I don't think I've seen any naked babies in pools in Asia. And while a waterproof nappy won't help with pee, it does contain the poos. If you don't want to use disposable ones, Bumps to Babes sells a couple of brands of reuseble (washable) swim nappies, the ones that velcro seem particularly comfy. I always just kept two or three of those around for the season. Sometimes you need to make a change while you're at the pool (bring a nappy sack) and sometimes the one from yesterday hasn't dried yet.

I agree wholeheartedly about blocking the sun, it's far stronger here than where we come from and I'd like to spare her from having skin like mine one day (!). I think most baby sunblocks caution against use until the baby is 6 mo old, you can see what your pediatrician has to say. We've always used the full cover sunblock suits (Bumps to Babes or the Cricket Club), a sun hat, and then sunscreen on the exposed bits. Late in the afternoon or when the pool is finally covered in shade is a different story...

If your're going to get a swim nappy use a washable one. But just a swim suit will do, it will contain poo, nothing contains the wee. Its what all kids wore up until a few years ago, before manufacturers decided to lure you into spending yet more money on things you don't really need but which they like to make you think are essential.

Many pools require you to use a swim nappy so be sure to bring some (either disposable or washable).

Solar Suits (or the equivalent) are really good because you don't need to use as much sunscreen.

If you are in Taiwan, you can get washable swimdiapers from www.littlewonders.com.tw. I am not sure if they deliver to Hong Kong, maybe you can email and ask.

I'm thinking about buying a solar suit but they look awfully hot. Any advice? Thanks

They do, don't they? My daughter was in one all last summer though and it didn't bother her at all. I was hot just looking at her, so I made sure she was in the water while she was wearing it.

I'm not sure I'd keep a child in one on a famously miserable HK summer day if she's only playing in the sand somewhere, but in the water they seem to be just fine. (Hat too, btw, far more comfortable for their eyes)
