Haircut & Highlights

With respect: I am looking for a good Hairdresser that is experienced in fine European hair, I am booked this week-end with one salon that was always praised by many contributers and I look forward to trying them, but I would love to hear from this community of their recommendations.

I am reletively new to Hong Kong and will start a new job after Easter. Achieving a nice appearance will help my confidence as I prepare to jump into the proverbial frying pan.

Thanks

It is always best to try and make time for a consultation before trying out a new Salon, take along pictures and give the hairdresser the opportunity to express their thoughts, if you feel comfortable, then go ahead and make an appointment.

If you know anyone that can get you into Cathay City you could check out the hairdressers there, It was the best cut and colour I have ever had. Not a great conversationalist, but he sure does wonders with hair. I cant remember the name of it, ill look into it, but there is only one there. Hope this helps

Well I did go to a Salon in Hong Kong for my first Haircut since arriving here. My hair is fine and flat, I have always kept it in a bob style.

Straight away the receptionist made me feel very comfortable and Philip George spent a long time discussing various styles and needs. we ended up agreeing that I should break away from my old habits and try a softly layered tapered style, He spent over 45 minutes cutting my hair wet and then again dry, using a technique I had never seen before to give fine hair more volume.

Never have I had so much attention given to me, usually its over in ten minutes.

The result? Excellent! I never knew my hair could have so much movement and style. I love it.

I am going back in a few weeks for my Highlights and looking forward to having one of their great shampoo massages again. Great Salon,Great Staff.

hey i know a guy too, a little out of the way but the haircuts are to die for. I have always been a little finicky about my hair and would rather not get it styled at all instead of looking for a clone!!! The salon is 'the earth' on Pottinger street, central. Its got mainly chinese staff but ask for Billy Lam. Takes time with the hair though.

Well, I have returned from my first business trip to China. A little bit scary, but I am sure I will get used to it. But why do all the young people have Orange Hair? is there something in the water?

Following on from my earlier post of my first haircut, I returned to the Philip George Salon with a friend, to have my much needed Highlights.

I used Clairol back at home, Ash blonde. Philip was kind enough to sit with me and explain how the colour chart works and reccomended combining three blonde shades to create a more natural look.

Amazing, I look like those society girls in Hello Magazine. and for the first time, the highlights started right from the roots, I will have to write a letter to my Stylist back in New York, informing him that it is actually possible. He could never do it!

I am very impressed and my cut still has kept looking great even though its three weeks old.

My friend wanted a cheaper service, and their nice receptionist reccomended Ivy at $350 .She is wery happy and loved the english stylists sense of humor. [Sorry we are American]

Still loving HK.

When I had my highlights recently, one of my disappointments stemmed from the way my highlights started at least an inch from my scalp, making it look like they've grown out for 2 months...

Good to know that PG knows how to do highlights that start from the roots. In a few months, will give him a try.

Pumkin: Can I ask approx. how much it cost for your highlight or do you know their price range?

Can someone advise where exactly is the Phillip George salon located. I'm sure someone mention the info for PG along the way..

Great!! Thanks Pumkin...I'll let you all know how it turns out.

FYI.. I went to a salon in Central, figure I would try it out, to begin with I have dark straight hair down to my mid back and lots of it. The shampoo guy that washed my hair didn't even bother to put conditioner in it and when I sat down their Top Stylist went about trying to comb out my tangled wet hair. The best part is, he asked the Shampoo guy if he put conditioner in my hair and he said no and the stylist didn't even bother to take me back there or have him take my back so he could do so!! Needless to say, he thinned my hair down substantially with his layering technique. Now I look like all of the asian girls in this town that seem to love that straight layer "V" in the back cut. I shalt not be returning.

There's a hairdressing type shop on Lyndhurst Tce Central that sells them. On the corner where the steps are.

Or there's a shop on Leighton Road, Causeway Bay ( where all the light shops are. It's just past the sports wear shop opposite, walking towards the Leighton Centre.)

Just wanted to add that I too go to Ivy at PG salon and she's fantastic, just had a new style cut (my husband said it's the best cut I've had in years!) and colour. Would highly recommend them.

What does Ivy charge for a haircut?

I have long layered hair which is normally straight, but the humidity is making it frizzy so I normally keep it in a ponytail.

Am seriously considering getting it cut really short. Does Ivy have any "specialty" cuts? My hairdresser back home is good with long hair but not so with shorter styles, so might need to have it done here..
