You need to get a visa, I do not know if they are available at the border for Canadians.
You can try:
1. ask your hotel concierge for a fast visa service
2. http://www.chinatravel1.com/english/index.htm
3. PRC Visa Office

4. There are lots of other travel agents that do china visa services too.
The quickest way is the MTR to TST.
Then the KCR to LoWu.
The main shopping centre is just next to the train station.
Beware of the touts - don't follow them into any shop or anywhere.
Use your common sense and bargain really hard!
Great to get a foot rub, manicure, pedicure in that building too.

If you are in TST then take Passport to Japan Travel in East Ocean Centre in Mody Square East TST. They do same day service OR you will have to try your luck at the border.
Just over the border is the Luohu Commercial City - just a huge plaza for HKers who are afraid to go further.
Take the metro two stations or walk north past the Shangrila until you get to Dongmen - the MAIN shopping area.

Hi,
I'm curious too abt shenzhen. There's a metro in Shenzhen? Isn't Lowu the last stop on the KCR? What bus takes you from Lowu to Dongmen? Are the malls open on Wed (it's a holiday here, i believe).
