I always put it in the blender and add some milk or water to make it a little bit runnier. You just blend it until you have the consistency you want. If the baby is older no need to make it as smooth.
I just mixed salmon and mashed potatoes the other day.

I used to mix sweet potatoe, chicken stock, fish, broccoli, carrots all together. Once you've it's all soft use a hand blender for a nice pureed paste. I'd alternate the "meats" but would keep the same veggies for a consistant taste. Hope that helps Mrs Miggins!

Well, yeah, like how young is your baby that they can't have any lumps? Isn't texture and taste what the exploring baby wants? If they don't, then maybe they're not ready for solids! But for what it's worth you can mash it plenty just using a fork. Better yet, litle fingers can pick up tiny bits to gum on and experiment with texture and flavor. IMO, whether your baby is on breast or bottle, there's really no need to get obsessive about pushing solids before they're ready, since they get the highly digestible protein they need from their milk. General signs of readiness for solids are that they are sitting up and grabbing for whatever you are eating and wanting tastes of it, and what they generally need supplemented will be carbohydrate. Of course you must push food with a failure to thrive baby, but are you in that category? Does your baby's doctor have concern over this?

I read meat should be baked and then make sure it is cold before you put it in the blender/food processor. Also, cut into small pieces first and add some water/broth/breast milk to it when blending.
