Recently in Cambodia I found a music store/cafe place with a huge database where you could take your ipod in and order some music and they would upload it for you ($1US per album).

Anywhere to do that in China?

1 US per album; sounds alot for a place like Cambodia but cool that it actually exists :) (1 USD would definetelly make me buy more tunes).

Doubt anyone would pay for this in China as they are downloading alot for free and it is well known. They are cutting back on this service but still; who in China would pay (Expats maybee...) ?.

I use : www.allofmp3.com

Costs about US$1.50 per album and is iTunes compatible. It's a Russian website that is (according to their blurb) legal :

Is it legal to download music from AllOFMP3.com?

Be careful if you decide to use your credit card to buy music on a Russian MP3 website. I'd pass over the opportunity if I was you. These are not usually legit sites. Unfortunately in Asia we don't have any options for downloading individual MP3s. itunes, Napster and Musicmatch require users to register with a US based credit card. Hopefully we will have some legal options soon. Until then we're "forced" to download illegally if we want individual songs.

Joesoap - Normally I'd agree with you. I was reluctant AND sceptical at first and only ventured forth as it was recommended by a good friend who makes his living in the IT security industry. Maybe not a good recommendation, but who knows. Anyway, I have been using the site for almost two years and scrutinize my monthly credit card bills every month and have never detected any fraud. I'd have to say it is the exception and at least seems legit.

I make my living in the IT Security industry too and I would still be careful. If iTunes sells a full Madonna album for $9.99 and your Russian site offers the same album for $1.50 then something is wrong. OK you might say that Apple are over-charging. ;) Seriously though if something appears too good to be true then usually it is.
