When I get an apartment here, I am seriously considering getting all sound-proofing materials in existence - the type that symphony halls use -and pad my apartment to oblivion.
Before I actually do so, have any of you renovated with a clear sound-proofing requirement in mind?
Did it work? Any advice on which materials to use/get?

(assuming you mean getting an apartment in HK)
Did some checking out on this a while back for a former employer who wanted a quiet room. Came across NSV (http://www.eechk.com/) which makes tiles. Also found an company which made foam (maybe a bit too unattractive for a home) called Lok Tai (I think). Don't know the outcome of which, if any, was used as left the company before a decision was made.

Thick concrete inner wall (taking up precious living space) and thick double glazed glass, also having a closable entry hall with two solid doors will do the trick.

Thanks for all the replies!
Fenman, I am thinking of trying to minimize noise from the world beyond the apartment. Like traffic noise, roadworks, screaming couples, drunken neighbors, and so forth. It's a fantasy that it can ever be done but I think it's worth a shot trying to minimize some of it.
