Hi Hipfish are on elgin st in soho although I dont believe they are the best or most reasonable for extensions. Its not my habit to say negative things but i do know someone who went there and had a disaster. They went to The Hairdressers and had it fixed with a full head of extensions and are very happy. The cost was around 4K. The Hairdressers were also quoted in Citylife magazine as the best salon for extensions in HK. They are on Wyndham st. It pays to look around and maybe go and have a couple of consultations. Good Luck.

Witley>>>> correct i am. What I have shared is just one experience that happend this week. And just quoting the Citylife magazine. I also recamended they should try different salons and get consultations before making a choice, not just for The Hairdressers.

Thank you. I have been to the Hairdressers twice before for hair straigtening. The first time was really good and the technician and stylist were very friendly. I even recommended friends and they went there too. However, the second time(different technician) I felt the treatment was rushed and my hair was burnt because of the lotion or the rusty straigteners they used that felt like they were pulling out my hair. They put me off going back there again because when I spend that kind of money I want a good service. I also don't want the whole thing to be finished off my a shampooist however nice he was.

D-Man, I do appreciate your advice and if you can recommend me a decent technician at the hairdressers then I may consider it.I'm sorry to be so blunt.

Patacas>>> i know exactly who you mean and that person has been let go as we realised the standard was not good enough. For extensions we do have a fantastic guy who is quick and acurate. We have also been researching other straightening products and have found some new stuff that seems to be fantastic even on repeated processes.

I am soooo disapointed. I have been going to Patrick at Hip Fish for well over a year and was very happy. The last time I went he did not bother to blow dry my hair as he had another customer waiting and asked the shampooist to blow dry my hair - it looked horific. I left the saloon running so I could get home and wash my hair. I feel that I don't pay those prices for the shampooist who has no experience with my type of hair to blow dry it - I won't be going again. Can anyone recommend another hairdresser who is great with curly hair?

Pennypots>>> if you are looking for a great stylist for curly hair you cant go wrong with Renae at The Hairdressers. She is a new Ozzie gal in town and is some what of a specialist with curly hair (hers is naturally curly also). Rennae is the newest addition to the team at The Hairdressers and I am sure you wont be disappointed.

Di, It is possible although the hair will be straight and compressed. There are a few options such as the lotion you use, the length of time to process, the heat of the iron etc. The other thing to do is not to process too close to the root so you can still have some natural lift. One process that we are doing is acctually blow drying the hair out instead of using the iron, this gives a more natural result allowing some body to come through.

Hi D-Man

I want to straighten my hair too (I have naturally wavy hair) but I was told that it was not really good in the long run as it damages the hair, but now around 2-3 times per month I go out, I get it done with the ceramic iron thingy as I think it looks better than wavy hair (specially with humidity in HK). Can you tell us a bit more about the different products and how harmful the products are or what can be done after hair straigthtening? Is is ok to ask for price as well here? THank you

Jyotee, the products have come a long way since the process was first introduced. For some of the products it is true that after the 3rd or 4th treatment the hair rally suffers but there have been improvements. Some products recognised this problem and developed buffers and conditioning procees into the system. Of course those cheap products are still damaging so for those salons providing the service at very cheap prices you can be sure you are not getting the good stuff. I have tried a dozen different brands and found one in particular that i find better and more conditioning than the others and its great on both caucasian and asian hair as there are different mixtures for different hair types. There is also a follow up treatment called 3+1 which helps maintain the hair and prolong the straightening. This is really an excelent treatment. Its not cheap though. In most salons it will run you from 500-600 but you do get a take home product with that.

The prices vary so much for straightening so I can only give you reference to what we charge. Depending on who does it (senior stylist, technician, senior assistant) the price can vary from 1000 - 3000. This will also depend on the hair lenght and thickness due to the time.

I always reccamend people to go for a consultaion first so the process and price can be clarified in advance.

Hope that helps.
