Dreams and do they mean anything?

Have just had one of the most harrowing dreams about one of my children, awful, just awful and it is preying heavily on my mind and i just cannot stop thinking about it.

I'm not neurotic and have had 'bad' dreams before but this one i can't shift.

Do dreams mean anything?

How bizarre. I had the most awful dream last night that I was being beaten up ( I am 4 mths pregnant) and that the baby was injured. It was so upsetting that I woke up in tears.

Whether I will come into a fortune, I don't know, but I'd rather not have that dream again.

Don't worry! Sometimes very vivid dreams are frightening or unsettling, but they are still just dreams. IMO dreams don't necessarily have specific meaning (like a fortune teller saying "you are pregnant") as much as symbolism (although I speculate your own cultural symbolism may be remarkably similar with someone else from your culture?) A psychologist friend once told me to ask yourself, what does this dream symbolize for me. An example: When I was a teenager I had recurring dreams about deep water, sharks, a raft that I could get on for safety, but the raft had my family on it and was crowded. I figured out that, for me, a dream involving deep water always symbolizes my fear of the unknown -- the water is so deep I don't know what's underneath and it's frightening. The raft is safety. Duh! But once I figured it out the dreams went away forever. There are a lot of theories, but I think dreams can be a way for your subconscious mind to be working things out while you sleep and if you remember your dreams you might sometimes get creative insight into problems you've been working on in your life.
