Tussle in Taiwan

Have just been asked by my company to relocate to taiwan [taipei] for 2 months.

Hate leaving HK [especially wanchai!!] for this long!

Does anyone have any idea how one could get on with life in taiwan for 2 months without knowing a trace of mandarin!!

My company would be providing a good hotel accomodation. It's my 'after work life' [ if such a thing would exist there] that i am bothered about!

humour me!

you could see this as a chance to explore something different from HK...

It is also probably good for your work experience and advancement in your company. You should be flattered they asked you and trust you enough to represent them :)

Yes, there are expats and bars and restaurants... there are also night markets, great food and lots of places to go at the weekends - national parks, beaches, waterfalls, hiking, etc...

Besides the western style bars, there are Taiwanese Beer Houses, that usually have wooden tables, serve lots of beer (no c*cktails) and have great food menus.

It is also cheaper than HK. And the people tend to be very friendly. Level of English is pretty decent in Taipei, less as you get out of the city - but getting out of the city is one of the best experiences you can have in Taiwan.

Even if you hated it, it is only 2 months :)

Well this definitely sounds refreshing. Yes, the company has trusted me with responsibility. I was thinking of immersing myself into work to cross the two months. But from the sound of it-- doesnt feel too bad.

But not too many english speaking people there. Why, sales people in my company [ below the manager level] can just gesticulate when it comes to speaking english!!
