i know waxing has been done to death on these pages but i'm going away in a couple of weeks and want to know where i could go for a brazilian??? Also does anyone know what a hollywood is? As I've never had a brazilian before, i'd also like to know what the costs are; time involved and if there are any post-waxing pointers? If I decide to take the plunge does this mean that i will forever have to continue with the brazilian???
any possibility of a trial wax?

I go to Sense of Touch, as do a few others from here and their Brazillians are AMAZING! I believe the terms refer to how much hair is left and the shape it is in. SOT is about $350 for one. GREAT job...VERY through and not all that painful...bout the same as a regular waxing of bikini line. It takes about 15 to 20 mins.
If you get one once and hate it, you can let it all grow back and go back to your regular care of your pubic area.
Post-Waxing? Exfoliate!! This prevents regrowth going into the skin. You may get red bumps for a couple of days after if you have sensitive skin, but nothing ttoo serious usually. SOT use a nice wax that seals itself around the hair and makes the removal more effective and cleaner.

I am SO glad that someone asked that question because I have been dying to have a brazillian but never knew how to go about it! I plucked up the courage a couple of weeks ago and went to the Beautiful Skin Centre in Pacific Place as I had heard so many amazing things about their waxes (which is from Australia and supposedly the best there is). A lovely lady called Helena put me right at ease (even though i was laying there totally exposed. I have to admit that I was super nervous but Helena made me laugh so much that I almost forgot what I was having done! Supposedly some of her clients go to sleep when they are having it done! It was suprisngly painless but its going to take me a few more times to be relaxed enough to sleep I think! BSC is affiliated to the Frederique Academy and Helena said that the women who invented the wax is coming from Australia to do a Brazillian waxing course in May (8th I think but better check??!!). Guess what?!! They are looking for models!!!!! I am going to sign up for sure! Free wax by the best in the world? Yes please! Here is the Academy's number if anyone is interested: 2522 2526.

AGGGHHH!!! Ok all this talk about great brazilian waxers in HK. PLS PLS PLEASSSEE does anyone know of a good one in Shanghai. I've been to Dragonfly and they sucked. Painful, they do the job in relative darkness and they aren't removing the hairs from the root at all. Help please. Otherwise may have to open my own Brazilian Only Waxing store...

@fluffynose: (love that name) I think that is the key as well. The girl I see at SOT, Nikki, is very relaxing and puts me at ease...even though she is investigating my most private of private parts. The first one I had was in Brisbane with a lovely lady named Sharon at Mirror Beauty and she did the same thing. Given the personal nature of a Brazilian, I think it is essential that you are comfy with your waxer. I went to one in HK, who shall remain nameless because she was SO TERRIBLE and I felt violated. Not only that, but I felt like I had nappy rash afterwards. Not nice at all.

I don't think they will take before and after shots at all. I hear that they are really pro and treat their models well. Im going to give them a call later today so will get all the info.
Tia - you are right. Once I find a good therapist I stick to her like glue! Venise at Elemis Spa is super for facials as well...
Sorry..dont know any in Shanghai...

hi everyone, thanks so much for all the information and support. i am thinking about which way to go and will definitely give both SOT as well as the academy a call - maybe the academy first as it's a freebie!!! I agree that one would need to be comfortable with the person who will be doing such a treatment. Will let you all know how i get on.

Completely agree with Tia - you can't go wrong with a Brazilian at Sense of Touch. I've been going there since I moved to HK (7 months ago) and wouldn't consider changing.
I'm not sure if it is my brain just swallowing SOT's marketing but the wax they use really seems to reduce the pain factor. And they are definitely the most 'thorough' of any waxer I've ever met. My boyfriend loves the results! :-)
However, I did have a full leg wax there yesterday and the wax was left on too long (I think that was the problem - the therapist ducked out for 5 minutes and left it on) and now I have a burnt, bright red, left leg. Not a good look!

Hi,
I had my first Brazilian about 10 days ago. I'm surprised that the results are so long-lasting!
I also did it with Niki. She's brilliant! I posted about it in this thread

The wax they use, does it involve being ripped off with those material rectangles, or is it like candle wax? Please advise as i have had both and much prefer one of them over another.

Hi - I have had brazilians now for over 4 years.. would never look back! After a wax I feel so much better - don't ask me why as it's only me (- maybe one lucky other) who sees it.
Anyhow I've had it both with the strips and just with the wax. I so much prefer it with just the wax. It gets the hair out cleaner and quicker. With the strips, they sometimes need to go over it again, and it can hurt after the 3rd go!
Anyhow I'm new to HK (been here for about 4 wks). So is SOT and that that place in Pacific place the best place for a wax?

Wax with strips works better for bikini line. If you are a regular, the regrowth is finer around the bikini area and so it is better to use strip wax as it takes out more hair.
Hard wax is mainly used in the lxxxa area because it is more sensitive.
Started two months ago and I am a regular now. I find that it is more hygienic.

For Shanghai - try Nancy or Angela at Portman Salon. I haven't tried Brazilian but others have and think she's good.

Hi Turle1, do you mean the salon inside of the Riz-Carlton Portman Hotel? Do you have the #? I am interested too.
Please support our advertisers:
Yes, it's the salon inside the actual hotel (7/F), the phone number is 6279-8630.
