Hi, My daughter went through a similar thing just before she turned 4 months - I thought she was waking up from a dream too, however we soon discovered it was her two bottom teeth coming through! Check your son's gums for any possible teeth - FYI I also left my daughter to cry/whinge it out for 5 mins or so and then she went back to sleep. Good luck :)

Or maybe a mosquito? Heat? Maybe a pat or rub on the back to comfort, but I personally wouldn't wake him up.

It it very common for 4 month old babies to wake in the night. Try letting him cry for a couple of minutes. Often they can go back to sleep themselves. Many 4 month old babies still require a feed in the middle of the night. It would be a good idea to go to a baby clinic to discuss this.
