I would like to live in the New Territory, and on an economy budget, can some please send me a list of agents I can contact in NT that can aid me in finding a rental. Is it feasible to live in the NT on a budget of 3000-4000 for rent. Thankyou so much. neal

You should be able to get a 700sq ft flat in Sai Kung Town for around that much money - friends of ours have a lovely flat overlooking the Sai kung Bay for $4,000 on the first floor. When do you need it? They move out in July.
I have found Ricacorp in Sai Kung very good for the purchaser or the renter. Michelle is someone there who I have worked with and happy with.

Hi Dimac and everyone, thankyou all for your help.
Thankyou for the great advice, is there an email I can reach you at, Sai Kung sounds like a very nice place. Can you give me the number to Michelle at Sai Kung? I should be coming close to July, but perhaps a little earlier.
Is there another place that you know about that will be available in the next 6 weeks or so.
Thankyou so much. Ric

There are plenty of people who live in Sai kung without a car.

Has rickstar stated he /she will be working in the city?
20mins to Hang Hau, 30mins to the city from there - most people in the world have at least an hours commute WDRL - sometimes alot more. Also, the quality of the homelife may be important to some people - Sai Kung offers a wonderful lifestyle.

Hi,
Thankyou all for your help, I have two nice places to look at now, Sai Kung, and Gold Coast,
I have never been there, I must see for myself If I really like it. My concern is that I will have to look for employment hopefully in my field as an IT technician or English Teacher since I also have Tesol certification, but havenever actually taught before. If someone were in my situation can you suggest what I would do first after arriving in Hong Kong, I know it will be very difficult at first., I hope
someone can help with some suggestions. thanks much, Ric

Rickstar - I am not sure you should get into a tenancy agreement until you have a job.. they are a two year agreement normally, and if you are unsuccessful then you will need to find someone to take over your lease or pay some money to leave.
You might be better sharing with someone until you have a job

think about lamma island. there are many teachers living there. hk$3,000-4,000 will get you a 350sq ft flat with rooftop close to pier or a 700 sq middle floor a bike ride away. no cars allowed so pretty cool place to live

Why not check out some of the share flats on this site? You will not have to sign a two-year lease and this will give you time to find a job, when a place of your own. You don't want to sign a lease for Sai Kung or Lamma if you get a night-shift job at Cyberport, do you? Alternatively see if relatives will put you up for a while.
