What's the general month-by-month weather like in HK?
Please support our advertisers:
Mid-March to mid-May: Pleasant.
Mid-May to Sept: Hot, sticky, wet summer. Humidity exceeds 90% almost every day. The humidity makes it uncomfortable to walk up even two flights of outdoor steps in office kit. Average monthly rainfall in summer is ten times higher than in winter. Occasional typhoons, especially later in the summer.
October: Pleasant.
Nov to mid-March: Dry but polluted and cool. On many days the visibility is less than 2km, as the air is thick with pollution particles.
The two big things are the "southwest monsoon", which blows warm, humid (but clean) air over us continually from mid-May to Sept; and the "northeast monsoon", which blows dry, cool, filthy air from eastern China over us continually from Nov-Feb.
When hunting for an apartment in winter, remember you will also be there in summer.... so check that the elevators/lifts and lobbies in the building are air conditioned, and that there is somewhere to wait under cover for taxis when it's raining.
