expat123, I think it would be better if you did get some professional attention. I've seen a really bad case of grinding in an adult where his permanent teeth due to excessive grinding were worn down to half their normal length giving rise to sensitivity and other problems ! Though your son may not continue this habit I would mention it to the doc if I were you.

Grinding teeth (by chinese doctors) means the person is "anxious" and "not sleeping well". There is actually a soup that one can boil that would help if not cure it.
I drank it lots when I was young (according to my mom), and it worked. My best friend's husband also grinds his teeth during sleep, it also worked.
