Help!
just came from the doctor's today, my one month old baby is allergic to cows milk - the doctor says there's no hypoallergenic milk in Beijing. hopefully he's not right and people in this forum can help me find where to order it here in beijing. I'm going back to work and pumping breastmilk at work is not a viable option.
Thanks in advance.

My son used to be intolerant to cows milk and soya. We used to give him a hypoallergenic formula called Pregestamil. That was in the UK, don't know if its available in China, but you could google the name and see if it comes up with any suppliers.

It's made by Mead Johnson. Their tel number in Beijing is:

I'm the mom of a very allergic kid. The problem is that kids who are allergic to one thing also tend to develop allergies to other things, so allergy to one formula can indicate that allergies to another will develop after just a month or two, etc. I'm very fortunate that I was a breastfeeding mom since it turned out in hindsight that my daughter cannot tolerate most kinds of protein. I worked, and I pumped at work. I admit it's not pleasant and it's not how I really wanted to spend my lunch hour (nor breaks), but it can be done. Especially if your employer will accomodate you (a frank and possibly awkward discussion with boss could be needed, so he understands health importance of issue). What you will need is a private space (I had a private office but I ended up using the women's lounge because it was a more pleasant space), a really good pump like a Medela portable(I preferred expressing), and a way to keep the milk cold. Plus, flexibility to take time to pump several times per day. Or do what one of my friends did, have your nanny deliver the baby to office for breastfeeding sessions. One month is a hard age, but it gets easier as the baby gets older. For most women, the bottom line is that BF is a matter of preference and baby won't die if she doesn't BF. But once in a while the story is different. I was once part of a team of about ten mothers who donated breast milk to a baby who couldn't tolerate anything else, and that baby was under the care of a pediatric endocrinologist who made the suggestion as a last resort after NOTHING else would work.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'm just hesitant to pump at work as the only private place is the toilet. we do have 15 min breaks but we're so busy i don't take the breaks.. will see what i can arrange at work. I also haven't found a decent pump here in beijing. will see if i can have a friend order it online for me - i don't have a credit card.

My son at the time was intolerant to dairy, soya, sheeps milk and goats milk, the Pregestamil worked really well for him, although it nearly made me sick when I tried it, but he really liked it.
