Yup, it's happened. Our three year old parrot has repeated a word she heard her dad say! And it's the dreaded f word. Actually, it's "f*&$ it". She said it when she dropped a piece of fruit yesterday and again this morning when she fell over. She's got the gist and the intonation and the whole kit and kaboodle. Oh no.... :(

What to do? Please help. She has a mind like a steel trap!

Hi

The best advice is to ignore it.

A trick for next time (hopefully there won't be one), is tell a tenny weeny white lie, so if a child repeats what you say, for example if I said, 'Oh my god' and a child then repeats the phrase, I say no I didn't say that I said 'Oh my gosh'. You just need to be quick and play with the words it really works well.

You could have even changed that one to something semi close like, No Daddy said Flip it, but really best to ignore and soon your daughter will find a new word to think about.

My 4 y old told me "but you say it ALL the time". I said "do I?, tell me if I do it again, it is v bad and I should get in trouble from the police". Then ignored, ignored, ignored (and v careful she didn't hear from me again.

She hasn't said it for ages, just a bit worried about next trip back to Aus.....

Unfortunately if you don't want your children to say these words you can't either (or within their earshot anyway!). Just one of the many things being a good parent is all about - examples and role models.
