Hi, I got married a few months ago. My husband holds US passport but I am not sure how to obtain social security in order to file taxation for maried couple. Please help!

Dear Jackie:
If you are not a US person and your husband wants to elect to treat you as a US person to file a joint return, you have to complete Form W-7 and attach such to the top of your US joint tax return and mail the return to the ITIN Unit (IRS Taxpayer Identification Number). Form W-7 has to be accompanied with a copy of your passport certified at the US Consulate.
The IRS changed the ITIN application procedure and you must apply for an ITIN together with your tax return.
