(Didn't see the documentary.)
It is believed that 50,000 women are trafficking into the US for sexual slavery every year. Clearly there is a buyers' market, which is only possible because men want to visit prostitutes and don't care whether what they are doing is actually rape.
Many of these women are duped, many are kidnapped. They are not doing it for prada bags as all the money goes to their "owners".
The profits are larger and the risks smaller than for drug smuggling. Governments needs to change the laws and give harsher sentences and charge the customers who use these slaves.

The answer is obviously no. I mean come on its 2006!
Prostitution does not happen it this day and age. It’s a hilarious subject I find! Rape, torture, kidnapping, wives, sisters snatched from the street forced to have sex with men around the clock, sure just give them a prada bag or two and they’ll be happy …
Jesus wept

Whilst no doubt good for ratings, it fails to acknowledge the systemic nature of the sex trade. ie it blames bad people (who no doubt exist) rather than structural poverty and inadequate social security. The vast majority of prostitution is single mothers, widows the rural poor trying to make ends meet. It also reduces the women involved into simpering clueless 'white' children. Much easier to blame a few bad people than build adequate social security systems in those countries. Think about how if effects attitudes to immigration and increases the difficulty of travel for women from countries such as Thailand and the Philippines into first world countries. What does this programme do for these people?

It is estimated that in Japan there are some 150,000 women who have been trafficked there for the sex trade. Japan only enacted a law against human trafficking last year so men travelling there for sex have possibly helped to fuel the trafficking. But I wonder if they even care...

I once read an academic study about this. Ten years later I can still remember verbatim one of the most chilling paragraphs I have ever read:
Thai Researcher: "Khun Nong, do your parents know you are a prostitute?"
Thai Girl: "Yes, ma'am. My father sold me when I was ten."
Researcher: "How does your mother feel?"
Thai Girl: "At first she was sad when my father sold me. But then my father explained that they can use the money to buy a field and sit in the front row at village meetings. So she is proud and happy now."

Portland you are being particularly insensitive. Human Trafficking is a serious issue. These women are victims of violence and a modern day form of slavery. Its not amusing and if you think Hong Kong prostitutes our happy self motivated service providers then you are deluded, you probably believe them when they regularly tell you have a big member
