I suggest either Mid-Levels, Pokfulam, Happy Valley, or Wanchai itself. There are many small and interesting apartments in Wanchai. But for a breath of fresh air, Pokfulam is a good choice in that it has easy access to Wanchai (15 to 20 minutes by bus, less by taxi), is green and outdoorsy, and is generally more reasonably priced than other comparably desirable areas on Hong Kong Island. Happy Valley is very conveniently located and prices are also good. Mid-Levels is a great location too, but very crowded and can be expensive. You can easily walk down to Wanchai from Eastern Mid-Levels. Good luck with your move and search for an apartment.

It will all depends on what style of life you are looking for. If you are a bar and a nightlife type of professional then Mid-Level/Wanchai is the place to be. Hong Kong is not so large so the commute to work won't be more than 20 minutes if you are in the Mid-Levels. Also your budget/housing allowance will also be a dictator of where you want to live. You get more space as you move farther away from the convenience and Central intself. Hong Kong has great public transportation depending where your office is in Wanchai you may even have a bus that stops in front of it do you may not necessarily have to be next to the MTR.

The Asia Xpat people can be more helpful if you give us more details.

Good Luck..
