does anyone know if it's possible to exchange vietnamese dong for HK$ in hong kong? i've tried HSBC, the FX counters in the World Wide House and even the FX counters at Chung King Mansions in TST as a last resort... no luck. anyone have any other ideas?

Have you tried the FX counters at the airport? I would think most would exchange foreign currency for you when you come back into HK so they should be able to do it there.

i think its not available for FX - but there is a cash machine at Hanoi airport when you are arrive

If it's a serious amount of money, ask the Vietnamese consulate 25914510, or Vietnam Airlines for advice. Or post to ask if anyone's heading that way from hk on

If it's just left over from a holiday, you could put it in the charity box at the airport.

I also got trapped with leftover dong and couldn't find a conventional exchange source. In one of my few clever moments I waited until I went back to the airport for a different trip, and went over to where a flight for Vietnam was checking in. Someone in the queue was happy to buy the dong. But it's not worth a special trip to the airport (probably) due to the transport cost. Good luck!
