We have a Gracco car seat, and we use the handle up in the locked position.
When he was under 3 months, and now when he is is sleepy, we put the sun shade up to block stimulation so he can sleep.
After 3 months he was awake more and we added a toy to the handle to entertain him.
Not sure if this is 'right' or 'wrong' but it seems to work for us.

we only added it once we realised he was awake - btw, that is a real shock when all of the sudden the car seat and car don't equal sleep :)

I have the manual for my graco - I will double check for you but I do remember reading that the handle should be DOWN when driving...i'm not 100% sure though. I will check and get back to you. (the manual is in the car...)

checked - handle should be DOWN not up. There are other toys that you can use that do not attach to the handle but to the car seat itself.

then why oh why invent the toys like this...
Ours can attach to the canopy instead.
