Hi! Im a teacher in Shanghai. Ive had someone make threats against ne, this guy wants to beat me up over some personal issue I think I have slighted him on. Im not sure how real the threat is, hes pretty worked up.

If he does hurt me, what sort of legal recourse do I have? Can I sue? Anyone know a good lawyer in Shanghai I can talk this over with? I just want to make sure I have all my bases covered just in case.

The more practical question might be, what hospital would you go to? Do you really want to risk getting beat up? Have you thought about reporting this to the police or your employer? Make sure you are not contributing to the problem by responding in kind or in any way that is inflammatory.

Unless the threat is hurting in a tangible way, it is difficult to sue now.

If he really hurts you, the right recourse is to report to the police ASAP.

If you think you are in real danager of being hurt, you can report to the police now.

I am in the same situation. I filled a complained at the police station and called my consulate. Basically nothing you can do before you get hurt. In the meantime you need to make sure you went to the police and gather proofs that he wants to injure you

(I am based in Shanghai)
