I need some advices for buying a nice lady's watch for myself. I have never own a searious nice watch before, but my 40th birthday is coming and we are about to move away from HK so I think it's about time.

My budge is about $1500 to $3000 (sorry, maybe it's not too fancy for you.) I like simple, streamline design, either classic, vintage look or ultra modern. I have a tendancy for liking leather band. So far the brand name I like is Cartier(Santo), Hermes, Bedat, and Bell&Ross. But I don't really know anything about watches, their movement and value. Can you help?

Also, anyone know where I can find Bedat watches

? Haven't seen them in stores in HK.

rititt, a basic Patek Phillipe Calatrava is around 57,000 HKD.

www.timezone.com is a great forum with many experts and serious collectors. These people can definitely give you a few ideas.

Harbour City and Central's watch shops are good places to start window shopping and getting a feel of what you might like. Try to look around as much as possible and compare prices in the meanwhile.

I think I've seen Bedat in Lane Crawford but I'm not sure.

Good watches in your budget would be steel Cartier, Rado, Philippe Charriol, simple leather strapped Chopard watches, and the ones you mentioned. Even before Hermes was known for its scarves, it was known for its watches. You can get steel Rolexes within that range.

Your budget won't get you haute horlogerie but it will get you a wonderful watch nonetheless that you can wear in all occasions. Just go for the one you like best. If you just try to buy something of "best value," the hunt will take you forever. When it comes to shopping for these things and you have already have a budget, it doesn't make too much sense to be too rational about the purchase or what others say about its value, style, etc. You can afford to be emotional as long as you stay within your budget.

Let me know what you get and good luck!
