Anyone know where I can but a game boy for my son's birthday? Also, any advice on which one to buy? How much it will cost? Thanks

I haven't seen the original game boy in a while, but maybe you can try the Wanchai Computer Centre (298 Hennessy Road, Wanchai). If they don't have them there, they will definitely have alternatives like the Sony PSP for sale.

I have seem Gameboys and Gameboy games in Silk Market (Jianguomenwai Dajie). You will have to go upstairs to electronic to get it. Also, you can get it at Buynow (multi level building selling computers and electronics) at Landao Shopping Centre. Hongqiao Market (near Tiantan Park) also has a huge rage of electronic games - my neighbour thinks they have the best prices. Be sure to bargain for the best price. I have also seen some at Lufthansa Shopping Centre in children's department.
You would probably want to get the SP units (flip out kind). Also the new Gameboy SP unit now come with an extra background light feature, you should see this feature highlighted in the box. The newest consoles comes in metallic colours (light pink, pale blue, silver etc). Sorry, I don't know price range in Beijing but in Canada, the consoles were selling for about equivalent to RMB725.
Don't get the older units which has a screen in the middle and the buttons on left and right side. The screens has no light and is difficult to see.

Lovemy2children2000 - you are great! Thank you so much. That's a huge help. Next question: Does the unit come with games already on it or do I have to buy additional stuff - if so, What?
Sorry to be a pain, but, this is all completely new to me. thanks a bunch

Hi Giraffe
I was at Hongqiao Market today. They have the Gameboy SP (flip up with brighter screen). I think the asking price was RMB650 but you must bargain it down for sure. The unit does not come with any games. You can pick your games from an album that they have like a catalogue book. There are lots of Disneys like Nemo, Madagasgar, Narnia, Spykids and others. Just show them which game you want and they will get the actual game for you from under the counter. Most does not come with a box. The games are definitely not originals but for the price, it is worth it. Also you can see the ratings for the games. I am not sure what age your son is. The ratings are an alphabet in black in a box normally at the bottom corner. E is for everyone, T is for Teen, M for Mature etc. I always got E cos my children are 8 and 11. Prices for games, just to give you an idea. We got FIFA World Cup 2006 today. Asking price was RMB60, we paid RMB25. It also depends on the game itself, some more popular ones and newest release are more expensive. The exact original game in Canada will sell for over RMB400! Only thing is the games here does not come with instructions but your son will probably figure it out. If desperate, check in the internet for instruction of the game, they may have it online.
We also brought our gameboys there so we can try out the game and it worked beautifully.
There are other accessories that you can get with the gameboy but not necessary. They will try to sell you the rubber cover to protect the unit if it falls, extra cables to hook 2 gameboys up (for that you need 2 exact same games for it to work), pouch to hold the unit, plastic cases to hold the games etc.
Have fun bargaining.
BTW, the building that sells the gameboy and games is another building just behind the Hongqiao Market called Toyland. Just ask one of the people in the market for children's toys and they will point you to the exit that leads to the Toyland building.

Lovemy2children - once again, you come up trumps! You are a complete star. Thank you. I will be off to the toy market as soon as I can.
