I want to set up a website - I need to register a name and want only 2 or 3 pages plus an email address. Is there any way of doing this for free or on the cheap?
I KNOW there are companies that can do it for you, but I want the flexibility of not being tied to a provider for updating my pages as and when needed and want to keep my costs as low as poss. I'm ok at design so can make things look quite presentable myself and would prefer not having to fork out for someone else to do it.
Any top tips welcome!

You just buy a domain name - they will send you a password and information on how to upload.
I just searched google and got this company http://www.hkirc.hk/eng/fee_schedule/index.html it will cost about $300 or less a year depending on the extension you want at the end (ie .hk or com)

Godaddy also offers hosting, from US$3.99 per month (2 months' contract) for the basic option. This goes down to US$3.19 per month if you book for 24 months. This includes free software and no ads on your site. Also allows you to purchase your domain name through them for just $1.99.
