during a trip overseas a friend of mine ask me as a favour to buy something for her, which I did.
When I was finally back I gave her what I bought , and told her how much she was owning me totally with the receipts.
She told me she would have settled later...
Now days has passed....and I did't see my money back....
How to have my money back without seems desperate and without offending/losing a friend???
some diplomatic help needed!!!

Just tell her directly that she forgot to pay you back. As a friend she won't be offended by your reminder.

It's obviously bugging you so I think you should ask for it back... especially since she said she would sort it out.
If she's a true friend, she will sort it out. It could be that she's just forgotten!

Send her an email. "Hi there, I was just going over my finances and was wondering when you would be paying me back the $x for X item?"
Easy, clear, inoffensive, straight to the point and friendly. Don't overthink it.

so true, Nemesis. (i have the same pet peeve about people who borrow books and don't return them. it shows a lack of respect for your property.)
july8, there's a lot of good advice above - so tell us what happened, did your friend pay you back?

I traveled with a friend who lost her credit card during the trip and I bought a few big ticket items for her on mine. When we got back, I wrote it all up, converted the money to HK dollars and gave her the itemized paper when I saw her next and told her to please pay me after her pay day. No problems.
Money is a tough subject. But if it is a large amount, you need to say something.

never lend money to a friend..tha tis the rule..unless you want to loose them....i have a tendency to return money right away cause it haunts me to owe someone money..but i have had freinds who i lend money to..they said they needed it....all i knew they end up going on vacations..but no money to pay me....it took 2 to 3 years of constant..i mean constant asking to get it back..i felt embarrased to call..but i had to..so yeah...must be careful...
you got to ask...

Ask her if she liked it/was the right thing... because she hadn't mentioned it after you give her the receipts (make out you were worried you had got the wrong thing).

I disagree that you should never lend money out to a friend. You just have to know which friends you can lend money out to.
Some of my friends are great - they borrow money and then return it the next day. Some are worse.. so it's up to you to make the right judgment as to lend them the cash or not. If it's a large amount, and you've never lent them money before - then you're in a tricky spot.
But if you have lent this person money, and she's avoiding you so she doesn't have to pay it back - is this a friend worth having??
