Laser Facials - does it work?

ORIGINAL POST

I have a few freckles under my eyes caused by the sun when I arrived in HK a few years back. I was at Skin Central and the doctor suggested Laser Facial. He says my freckles are not too deep. He thinks with 4 treatments the freckles will not be visible anymore. Does anyone has experience with Laser Facials? Does it really work? Do they come back? Is your skin even more sensitive for the sun once you have done this?

different people have different experiences. and it also depends on what kind of laser you use. i have a friend who when through 10 sessions of laser treatment(ipl or something like that which is supposed to be the latest treatment), and said it didn't work at all. but i've also heard from other people that it got better. i also hear that freckles are almost impossible to get rid of all together, they just get lighter.

my dermatologist told me freckles were EASY to lighten - nearly 100% result using laser treatments. What is difficult is discolouration / spots caused by hormonal changes (i.e. pregnancy). I tried several treatments for "cholasma" caused by pregnancy, and it had virtually no result for me. However, the doctor was upfront about that possibility.

Through my experience working in the Spa industry, this is just an advise that you can try at home.

Freckle Removal DIY & Minimization Tips:.

Stay out of the sun whenever possible and wear sunscreen when you do go outside. Your freckles will tan just like the rest of you, causing them to become more obvious.

Apply lemon juice directly to your face twice a day and let it sit for at least 15 minutes. You can also apply it at night before retiring and wash it off in the morning after rising. This will also increase your sensitivity to sunlight so wear sunscreen when you go out.

Freckle removal:

Freckle removal is easily achieved with lasers. Before lasers, it was difficult to remove freckles because the lesions are so small. But with laser, the treatment can be pinpointed at even a very small spot. Other methods used to remove freckles include laser resurfacing, Retin-A, and chemical peels. Laser resurfacing is a pretty significant procedure to recover from, so it is usually done only when there is severe sun damage or undesired wrinkles to remove as well. Retin-A is a good treatment, but good results take several to many months of use of the product. Chemical peels are of two main types, superficial, and deeper. The superficial peels, such as glycolic peels, are able to remove freckles, but usually with many repeated treatments. The deeper peels will get rid of freckles all at once, but recovery is more significant.

The advantage of the newer laser systems is that the laser energy is absorbed selectively by the color of the freckle, avoiding harm to the surrounding skin. This is desirable, particularly on the face.

What are freckles? Freckles are small, pigmented lesions, often found on the face, arms, legs, and back. They are a result of sun exposure, usually at an early age.
