I am throwing an old computer and noticed I have hundreds of emails in Outlook Express I would like to save. Is there any way to save them all in another format so I can read them later if I don't use Outlook? Preferable not one at a time. Thx.

Hi
Yes, there is a way of saving your all emails. You have to copy your email store which is in the following location if you are using windows xp
You have to follow following steps.
1) Display hidden files On: Open my computer, click menu option tools, select sub menu folder options, and then under hidden files and folder choose Show hidden files and folders, and then click apply and ok
2) Now you can copy your email fodler: Open my computer, then open the following folder path -
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data - Here administrator will be replaced by your computer user. Under this folder you will see a folder called Identities. This folder is your email store folder, you can copy this folder to and offline media such as cd or external hard disk.
This can be used to again restore your emails to your other computer.
I hope this helps. If anything more or your are not sure, do not hesitate to email me at alexander.senn@gmail.com
Thanks,
Alexander

Thanks so much Alexander. My old computer has Windows 98 on it (I know, it's sad). Do you think the same idea will still work?
Cheers!

Hi,
Yes, but with a bit of change.
Follow these steps
1)Open outlook express, Click Menu option Tools and then select Options, you will see a pop up window
2) Select Maintenance tab, and then you will see a command button called "Store Folder"
3) Click this command button, it will open a small pop up window called as Store Location
4) Copy the entire path of the store folder location.
5)Then close all open windows and outlook express.
6) Now open my computer and then c: Drive
7) Paste the STore folder location path that you copied into address bar and click enter
8) It will take you to your store folder.
9) Move one level up and then copy Identities folder, this contains all your emails.
Note: Make sure that you have hidden files and folder options set as "show all hidden files and folders"
Then this folder can be taken to external media and restored to your new computer
Thanks
