Hi, I am returning home to have a baby then bringing it back to Hong Kong shortly after the birth. Does anyone know if I have to get the baby a visa before I come back or can it just be a visitor then apply for one here. I hold a dependants visa. Have tried immigration but they dont understand my request!

thanks!!

i'm in S'pore but i needed to get my little one a dependants pass. we needed to have her citzenship document, then apply for a passport AND THEN get her dependants pass (they need to stick it in the passport.)So to even enter back into HK you'll need to have her passprot anyway. The real nightmare is doing the passport the bloody photo you need of bubs is a challenge, it has to be eyes open, head striaght know one holding bubs. Make sure you get a pamphlet on the requirements and ask if the embassy recommends a particular photo lab to do the photos.Good luck, my advice to you is get the forms sent to you now so you can read thru them and start to organise and fill in what you can. Oh also my husbands company sorted out the dependants pass for us.

Re: passport photos- In HK, they allow a digital photograph taken at home. i.e on the bed etc. on a white background. You can apply to immigration to change the status of the baby from visitor to dependant. Be warned, even though HK immigration must deal with this ALOT, they still struggle to understand exactly what you mean re: babies dependant visa's.

Our second child was born in the US during SARS. He entered Hong Kong on a visitor's visa. We applied for a dependent's visa once we were back in HK. It was easy to do.
