Hello all, i need a big help. I will be heading to Hong Kong in early part of Jul and was told that HK is a best place for shopping. I am a big sized girl and in desparate need of new clothes, shoes etc. I need suggestions on where i can go in HK to get clothes big enough to fit me, not forgetting cheap and affordable too. (size 18 and up for clothes, and size 10-11 for shoes). i will be staying in the Mongkok area.
Thanks so much!!

You might want to consider getting clothes made because a constant expat gripe is about not being able to find clothes that fit. I am a size 10-12 and have been here nearly a year and not yet bought a single thing because nothing I like fits or is affordable. I have enjoyed show shopping but believe buying bigger than a 40 is quite a challenge.

how is the price range for Marks n Spencers? are they exorbitantly expensive? maybe lets use a pair of pants for example, what wld be the price range like? Comparing it with SGP, will it be cheaper in hk?
i was also told abt those markets in Stanley. Are they good? Also, i will be spending couple of days in Shenzhen, which is said to be the 'clothes manufacturing' hub.
sorry with the loads of qns, its my first time in HK. Thanks all in advance!

There are sure to be large size shops in Shanghai if you can find them. Have you tried posting on Shanghai practical, or ask the local expat club members? http://www.communitycenter.cn/Shanghai_Living/Shopping?currpage=404

Wanchai is great for larger size stuff. Head down Henessy Rd from the admiralty end, up towards Morrison Hill and you will find import/export shops on both sides of the road. Some are better than others but you'll usually pick up Ralph Lauren, the odd Nicole Fahri etc, but you must be prepared to rummage (and wear comfy shoes!). The sheer volume of garments makes for persistent looking but seek and ye shall find.............

Shoes may be difficult, I'm a UK size 7, most shoe shops only go up to a UK 6 and tend to be quite narrow. I'm also a UK 16 and find HK very limiting for clothes especially ona a budget. Jeans and trousers in M&S would set you back around $400-500, some less depending on style.
There are a few shops around Central that cater to larger ladies. Stanley isn't bad, some bargains can be had there, but many of their ethnic type clothes only come in 1 size so if you're larger than a 38bust they won't fit, But definately worth a look. Also there are many export shops around, and you can often find good bargains in them if you rummage, the one I go to the most often has next t-shirts up to a size 20.

you may go to Kowloon side and take mtr to take the exit next of Mongkok Police Station, you will find many gas supply stations, then go forward to a street called Garden Street, there will be many export outlets, but you need times to find out. Many are cheap and good quality but some may be the secondary goods or samples.

In Wanchai, there are sample shops (super sample, sample king...) along Johnston road worth looking into. Also check out Wanchai road--there's an export shop near Hardees.
In Kowloon, go to Fa Yuen (MTR to Prince Edward, exit B1- Mongkok Police Station). When you see a gas station, ESSO I think, cross the road towards the street market.
