Correct grammar

Another faux pas is putting an apostrophe in a decade, e.g. 1990's, when it should be 1990s. The contract form of a single year will take an apostrophe.

I am a stickler for these kinds of things and have cast aside resumes from applicants who do not know the difference between it's and its.

New Year's is standard American ellipsis for "New Year's holiday". (In the same way, the apostrophe is correct in "New Year's eve" and "New Year's day" - even in British English.)
