Best currency method for SE Asia

Hi all,

I've saved up several thousand dollars for a trip around SE Asia (Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia) Wondered if you could help me - what will afford me better rates?

*Buying US dollars here and exchanging them as I go.

*Buying Baht and other currency here.

*Taking my HK$ and getting them converted as I go.

I know US dollars are acceptable in a lot of places in SE Asia, and I don't want to use traveller's cheques or an ATM card.

Many thanks in advance guys =o)

USD and change in the country where you go for best rates.

USD cash.

Note that many small money changers in Laos and Cambodia won't accept US$50 or US$100 notes/bills if they are older than 1997. (And in rural Cambodia it is almost impossible to change 1996 notes, in particular: apparently it is the most commonly forged year.) Best rates in those two countries at the jewellery stores, not banks.

Cheers Mango...

All my remaining cash inevitably has to be changed back into UK£ when I return to England --- would it be just as good to convert a wad into UK£ to exchange all around SE Asia --- Or do US$ somehow offer better rates?

Cheers again!!

I agree with you all, so think I'll take half-and-half but use the sterling last. Then I'll be able to bring the remainder home to Ingerland without changing it a second time.

Thanks to all =o)
