We (my hubby and I) always spend a few hours at the weekend market... It sells basically everything from Antiques, to kitchen materials to small animals. We have found some very nice house decoration items there for unbelievable prices. Worth the heat and carrying it back.. There is also a night market not to far from the major hotels like Banyan Tree etc.

Then second on the list is a few hours of SPA treatment in any of the hotels or small boutique SPA'S that are advertist everywhere. Not sure if the restaurant on top of Banyan Tree is called Vertigo but that is a very nice place to go. Just look in the mazazines that you receive or can find in the major hotels. It tells you a lot about nice restaurant and bars..

Enjoy. We love it!

If you still have time after the above suggestions, try to visit "Rose Garden". Everything is there, really a nice day out. Elephants-Tigers-Thai Shows. Thai handicrafts. Clean air+beautiful garden+orchid nursery. Very good restaurant too. Sure your wife will love it!!! Enjoy.

Is this your first time? If so, it would be eccentric not to see the Grand Palace and do a canals tour. Boats for both leave from the Peninsula's pier.

If either of you is into shopping for high quality stuff for your home, great antiques (many genuine) at River City mall and fabrics/gifts at Jim Thompson shop. And the Chitralada shops for local handicrafts.

If you want a break from the noise, visit Jim Thompson's house or get a massage at Wat Po (where the majority of Thai masseusses train). Another place you can get a break from the noise is the outdoor Thai restaurant at the Sukhothai Hotel.

PS. Travel within Bangkok can be very tiring. Try to concentrate on one area of the city - for example, Grand Palace, Canals, Peninsula, Oriental, River City, Wat Po are all very close to each other (and you can travel between each by boat).

Persistent rumours that Chatuchak will close, but still there (last week, anyway!). It is a long way out of town, though, and would use up a lot of your limited time getting there and back. And as you've been in Asia for a while, you won't find much there that you haven't already seen elsewhere.
