Alternative to running cables along the wall

ORIGINAL POST

Hi,

In our new home the cable TV point is only in the living room.

I would hate to run wires along the wall to the other two rooms, which are at the back.

Is there any wireless solution available which works?

Thanks

You can buy quite a few different types of wireless transmitters/receivers now a days.

Another way of doing it, is to re-route the main feed from the cable to all your outlets by connecting a splitter from the main cable feed in your first box and sending the signal to all your TV outlets in your house. You will only get the one signal for all the units, but it can cut down on costs if you have 3 bedrooms etc.

Cost of splitter is about $50.

Good luck

Thanks, very much, for the advice.

Unfortrunatley i have only one outlet in the living room. So probably i will have to go the wireless way.

Can i usea combination of Wireless and Splitter to creat two outlets.

On the Wireless Equipmet, any suggestion on the specifications?

Thanks

Hi K(c)

Am I right in thinking you don't have TV outlets in your other rooms?

If so, then you would probably have to go the wireless route.

If you do have TV outlets in the other rooms, then I would still suggest splitting into the main feed, before it goes to the first box in the Living room (Which is typically the first feed into the house). To find out if it is the first. Open up the box and unscrew the co-ax. If you then can‘t get any pictures on the TV’s in the other rooms, then it’s the main feed.

To insert the cable signal for all the other rooms, do the following:

You need to open up the box, unscrew the co-ax going from the hole in the wall to this box (as you just have done for finding the maim feed) and connect a piece of co-ax from this to your cable box input. Then from the cable box output, screw another piece of co-ax and screw the other end back to in "Input" of the TV socket box on the wall. You won’t be able to screw the TV plate back onto the wall, but it’s not a big problem to leave it hanging or even cut out the bottom of the plate so you can fix it back on the wall.

I must admit it was a few years since I did this and I have a more complicated set up as I’ve also routed VCR and DVD recorders into my setup too. But from my cloudy memory, this should do the trick for you.

Of course, you will only be able to view the one cable channel on your TV’s at any one time, and you can only change the Cable channel by going into your living room. But this little bit of inconvenience is far outweighed by being able to lay in bed and watch the footy at 3am.

K(c).

Now that is an offer I can't refuse.

I'm hoping you did all the cabling yesterday and you are now watching all the great football matches from the comfort of every room in your house...lol

I think a beer would be a great idea.

Tim
