Where can I buy unsalted pistachios? Everywhere I looked, they only stock salted ones. Need unsalted ones for making dessert.

You will see large boxes of them outside shops in Wing Lok street west of Western Market; and in Des Voeux Road West between Queen St and Sutherland St.

You can also buy them at a shop in Model Lane Quarry Bay right outside the MTR Station. They have everything in bulk and you buy as much as you want.

Hi Burgundy & ceeh, do you know where those pistachios are from? If they came from China, I'd be suspicious of their quality/cleanliness, etc.

Almost certainly from China. There was a rumour a couple of years ago that China used hydrogen peroxide to bleach them (as they do for sharks fins). But FEHD did lots of random testing and didn't find any evidence of that. See:

I'm pretty sure I've also seen unsalted ones (from the US) at the special nut counter in Wellcome at the Westwood (under The Belchers). I'll check next time I go in.

mango1, I don't think so: I've looked in Wellcome & Park & Shop, the pistachios they sell are salted.

Checked when I walked past today.... 142 and 168 Wing Lok Street had unsalted "California Pistachios" - but not sure whether or not "California" refers to their place of origin.
