I'm just curious what kind of tangible impact the air pollution in Hong Kong has had on other people.

I've hade 17 sinus infections in 3.5 years, five of these even after sinus surgery. I've also developed asthma since moving to Hong Kong.

shedding more hair;

skin problems (acne, oily skin etc).

not sure if these are directly caused by the pollution, but they seem to be caused by being in HK.

I am mildly asthamatic now. I too shed more hair. But this could be due to poor diet.

child developed chest infection and then bronchiolitus and if it wasnt due to pollution, it was certainly exacerbated by it. Heard of lots of similar cases. He ended up being hospitalised for 3 days after trying ventolin. I really questioned why we were here when this happened. Having said this, fingers crossed, touch wood etc, ok now- whole family has itchy, sore and tickly throats for a few weeks and we never got that in London. Not that London is the cleanest city in teh world!!!

i would never even consider having kids here: i can deal with the detrimental effects on my own health but how could I take that decision for a child? at the risk of inviting abuse...I question anyone with children here, who have the ability to move elsewhere: don't you feel guilty? maybe there is no health effects from the pollution, but it certainly shows a bad side of humanity. complete disregard for the natural word (and its NOT through naivete). is this really the kind of world you want your children to see?

Chest infections of all kind. Poor health generally and I don't get on with the food. I was born here! In another post somewhere, I said how I looked forward to breathing cold fresh air at Heathrow. My GP used to live in Bath and she understands and told me that my choices are to put up with it or leave.

Solid advice. I will put up with it then leave. Not sure how much more damage the body can take though.

People here don't really care. Too self absorbed with materialistic things. Even religions here are very commercialized. OK it isn't perfect else where but HK takes some beating. Sealare86 is spot on. One of the reasons why I couldn't ask someone to join me here is because she has a little girl and this is no place for them. They are used to the Wiltshire countryside and Camp Bay in Cape Town. I don't think they will last 2 minutes here.
