Child Friendly Restaurants

ORIGINAL POST

Hi

We are beginning a bit bored with repeatedly going to Cafe Deco, Wildfire and Dan Ryans. They are all great with young children but we do not need to look at the menus at more, as we have probably tried everything by now. Is there anywhere else that is very child friendly? It obviously needs to be somewhere with a real non-smoking section, rather than a single table next to the bathroom.

Many thanks in advance.

Ruby Tuesday's in Cityplaza provides crayons, etc. --this is similar fare to Dan Ryan's. Pepperoni's also provides crayons (no high chair nor booster chair, though)...

my doggie, don't worry it was clear! Ashamed to say that we have not made it to DB yet (although have been to Lantau and NT, so not totally wedded to HK Island). Now we know where we can eat without boring our children or frustrating other diners, we have more incentive. Thanks again!

I don't think Jaspas is good for children- lot of people get annoyed there- at least I had that experience when I was there with my daughter....try CPK- california Pizza kitchen- there is one in Harbour City i.e.

Pepperonis on the escalator doesn't have high chairs but the Sai Kung branch does and they provide crayons, too. The manager is a lovely man, really friendly with kiddies. There is parking nearby but you have to pay. I don't think it has a non-smoking section, but we've never had a problem - maybe luck, maybe because we always go so early we're the first and only customers :)

The Peak Cafe staff are great for not even raising an eyebrow at breastfeeding mums (not like some places where they glower at you!). They have a lovely kids menu, an activity sheet, balloons (sometimes) and a pretty fountain which my 2 love to look at. Friendly staff will help you up and down steps with pushchair.

Shanghai Garden (Bank of America Tower) has high chairs and the staff are friendly to children but no crayons / balloons. On the plus side, their dim sums are heavenly!

Although not very exciting for parents, the little ones do love Pizza Hut. We only go there occasionally but they do have the balloons / crayons / kids menu etc etc. The one in Sha Tin we used to go to never minded me breastfeeding, and that alone bought a lot of loyalty from us!

In our family we are all feeling the loss of Shooters 52: the best one was on the Peak but it's closed down now. I think there's another one at Times Square Food Court but without all the toys.

Fantastic, thank you! We always tend to go to Cafe Deco at the Peak because of the toys, but did not realise that the Peak Cafe was so good too. Beyond the breastfeeding stage now, but it is always a good sign if they are open to it (will never forget the horrified faces when I had to give an emergency feed in a corner of Victoria City once!). Shanghai Garden sounds great too, usually have crayons in my bag, so that is no problem (booster seats are a pain to drag around). Thanks Snow Rose!

STAR&SHINE, insight on Jaspas is helpful. Our daughter is an angel dining out or travelling but our son is real boy, so not necessarily popular with other diners!!! Never heard of CPK before, must try it. Thanks again.

We went to Cru in Sai Kung (run by the Jaspas group) and thought it was great... thin crust pizzas, fusion snacks, burgers and wraps.

It is also child friendly with children's menu and has crayons on the table...

The staff in Jaspas in Sai kung are great with kids. But the main plus for eating there is that its situated in a traffic free square with a small park, so the kids can play quite happily and ride their bikes or scooters etc once they've eaten. Also in the same square is Cru (same owners as Jaspas), Sauce and a new one caledd The Village. They all have covered outside dining too.

Thanks sarahmom and Ruth. We have been trying smaller and more ethnic restaurants and have been stunned at how our children take to food that we see as exotic. The problem we almost invariably experience is the smoke. We tend to eat early and therefore go into a virtually empty restaurant, but end up abandoning our meal when someone lights up next to us. Two of us are asthmatic and therefore it is a risk I am not going to take (the air pollution is enough of a gamble). Thanks though

Top Deck at Junbo has a small play area for kids - it is not the best, but they are making an effort and there is lots of space for a pram, etc...

The korean restaurant Sorabol in Lee Theater is very good - they have small private rooms also - which you can request and you can barbeque at the table or have them do it for you.

Another nice Korean restaurant is Kaya - they also have small private rooms - away from the smoke. (Korean food is very easy for kids to love as the bbq is a bit sweet...appealing to the kids..)
