Fluoride for babies

Hi,

What's the take on giving babies fluoride?

I have a 9 month old and was wondering if I should start putting fluoride drops in his drinking water. But I was told that if his drinking water already contains a certain amount of fluoride than he does not need the drop, as too much fluoride can be harmful as well. He drinks boiled water, so I'm not sure if it's neccessary for the drops.

Does anyone give their babies fluoride drops? If so, when should I start and how much do I need to give him. Any suggestions on this would be helpful. Thanks.

I have asked my pediatrician about it as in France Babies have supplement in fluoride.

He told me that it was needed if I used tab water for cooking her food. So I guess that it works dor boiled water too.

I have also read that too much fluoride does more harm than good.

Thank you Sylvieng, that's helpful. I also use boiled water for his food too, so I think I'll start giving him some.

How old is your child and how much fluoride do you him/her?

My friend who is a was a dentist in Hong Kong said you didn't need to add fluoride as there is plenty in the water.

Also if you use bottled water then you could just rely on a small about of low fluoride toothpaste when cleaning your babies teeth.

So if I boil the tap water, there still is fluoride in it?

There is no need to give flouride drops to babies in Hong Kong and in fact too much flouride can cause the teeth to discolour.
