What are some of the most reliable internet services in China for residential? How much do they charge for DSL vs Cable? Is wireless safe? Are there lots of spam?

When I moved in, ADSL (CNC) had no spare lines in my area, so I was forced to use Cable (83yuan/month), however it seems to be very adequate for normal internet uses, including streaming radio stations from Australia. And is ultra-reliable with only one outage I've noticed in about 18 months.
Can't speak for ADSL in Beijing, but my friends in Shanghai say its crap. The technology is far superior to Cable but it all depends on the headend it is connected to and it's upstream connection.
Is wireless safe? As long as you configure appropriate security, it is. Out of the box, wireless access points conveniently share your internet connection with anyone near by. So it's important to read the manual and get WPA (not WEP) security up and running (before your whole building starts availing themselves to your internet connection!)
Are there lots of spam? Your internet delivery method will have no effect of the amount of spam you recieve. Talk to your mail provider about that.
