LOOKING FOR GOOD TAILOR

I am looking for an affordable tailor in Hong Kong to copy some of my favourite pieces. I know there are many in Shenzhen, but my schedule doesn't allow me to travel there. Plus, I have heard some horror stories about poor fit, poor quality and so on, so I would much rather pay a little more. Some friends of mine have even paid upfront for items to be made in China and never had them delivered to them in Hong Kong!!! I found a place in Wan Chai that does pants for $300, which I still find a little pricey, considering I want to copy about 10 items.

My friends and I have been getting our clothes made in Shenzhen for th elast 4+ years and out of many many outfits have only had one or two disappointments and that was because of the incorrect fabric chosen. Shirt costs HK$50 to make plus fabric of about HK$50 and trousers not much more. Have to expect to pay more in HK as overheads are a lot more!

Ditto wtih Ceeh. Very happy with quality in Shenzhen. You need about 2 m of material for a male shirt, then there's labour costs. Eg, 10 shirts, 4 slacks, 1 skirt cost my wife and I HK1300, including delivery to HK. Very happy with results. You buy the material from the materials hall, and then take it to the tailor. NB, our tailor typcially charges between HK800 - 1000 for a suit. If interested it's Zhang Yu Lian, shop 5069 (ie fifth floor). I've used him for a year, but there's a group of people I know who have been using him for at least 5 years! NB - never had a suit made by him, but they looked good quality (frankly as I live here, HK800 isn't a huge amount of money to waste if they don't turn out!). You can either bring the material to him, or let him choose. I should also add, I've heard more good stories re Shenzhen tailors than bad - Shanghai on the other hand is another issue... but I spose it's all down to who you go to.

I've had two disappointing tailoring experiences in HK - one very $$$ one at a place in Prince's Building, and another somewhere in TST that was well - I won't be going back there.
