Our 6 month old baby suffers terribly on plane trips. He screams uncontrollably for the entire journey - longest being 8 hours. He then needs a day to recover fully after a trip. He has travelled 3 times, his episodes are SO extreme we are afraid to fly with him.
Phenergan is a drug available in Australia. I've known a couple to dose their 1 year old before travel. However, I have a suspicion it is not safe on children under 2. Are there any other "sedation" drugs in HK? Are there alternatives. Believe me, we've tried most.
Flying to Vietnam in 2 weeks.....help.

Ah, look what I just found.
"It is also important to note that Phenergan is not recommended for children under age 2. In fact, the FDA recently strengthened their warning and now states that 'phenergan is contraindicated for use in pediatric patients less than two years of age because of the potential for fatal respiratory depression."
Alternatives?

I'm sure that you've tried this, but if not; can you 'manage' his naps so that he sleeps during the flight. If he nods off on take-off (good to breast or bottle feed him then anyway to help his ears), he should sleep most of the way to Vietnam.

I've used both Phenergan and Vallergan on my kids (should I be locked up!!!) but have found liquid piriton to be the best. Again it's an antihistemine (??sp) and has worked for me.
Good luck....

My daughter was prescribed Phenergan for flight travel when she was 9 months old. Unfortunatley instead of putting her to sleep it made her hyper active. Also tried some cough syrup (within dosage and for kids only), but nothing works for her. Nowadays just take toys and stuff to keep her entertained or make sure she is exhausted by the time for her flight, so that she sleeps through.
