I am just wondering if there are any old timers who would know who the western female tramps were that used to hang around the lower part of LKF?
They looked about 70 years old and used to often be by post 97.
What was their story? How come they ended up on the streets?
I have always been intrigued by them, I haven't seen them for many months now.
Thanks in advance!
They has white hair and both usually wore grey dresses.

I agree completely...........I didn't mean to put tramps.
I am afraid I don't read chinese.
Did they use to work in Hong Kong? But fell on bad times?
They always seem to be v. interested in expats and appear to observe them carefully.
Where do they live? Are they English?
Thank you so much for your help, I have always been really intrigued by them both.

I'm told one of the twins died last year, and indeed, only see one of them knocking about these days.

Thanks guys for all of your replies.
It's all very interesting.
I am right in thinking they are English?
I wonder where they actual live?
They seem very interested in westerners as I have noticed on the few occasions I have seen them, they have often turn and follow them.

I'm a little confused, moonriver says that they were "little girls some 20 years ago", which would make them, what, possibly in their 30's or 40's now? But the original poster says they look about 70 years old? Are you talking about the same people?

Thanks for all your replies, I just wish there had been a constant story that had come back so I knew which one right.
It seems slightly strange that two western ladies opened up a curtain shop? The model story does seem believable.
The twin that is alive must really miss her sister.

I'm pretty sure the curtain shop story is the correct one (not to say they couldn't have modelled at some point as well) as a friend who's a long timer knew them when they had their shop. The surviving sister looks older from their years living on the streets, but she is not in her 70's - early 50's is probably more accurate.
I had the occasion to ask my friend about them because many years ago, I found out they had been rummaging through our restaurant garbage after hours. One day, out of the blue, they approached me and started rattling off about the items from our menu (just what we needed - garbage food critics!). Anyhoo, they had this eery air about them and finished each others sentences. They were quite stinky and I was probably looking a bit stunned during their little 'menu evaluation' because the next thing I know they both asked in unison 'Are you animal, vegetable, or mineral'. To which I said "What?" (since it had no bearing at all on anything they had said preceding it) and they both looked at each other, yelled "Vegetable" in unison, and walked off laughing down the street. That was the first and only time they ever spoke to me.
As wierd as they were (are), I agree that the surviving sister must be lonely as they did seem to have some 'more than just twins' mental connection going on between them.

I heard that they were English, whose father was a reasonably wealthy man and left them well-provided for when he died many, many years ago. Surely they are typical of what the Helena May hostel in Garden Road was intended for in terns of providing affordable accomodation for genteel English ladies (who have fallen on hard times???).
One of them died 18 months or so ago. Where and how her remains were despatched I know not, but there must be an official record of it somewhere.

what about their mother? what happened after the father died?

Tragic indeed Billy, but I have heard yet another version from an oldimer whose a retired social worker. According to him, the two ladies were actually borned here to British civil servants. The sisters fell in love with 2 local police officers back in the fifties. The father was angry at the fact that thier daughters were dating chinese guys. Threatening to send them back to the UK if the relationship was going to continure, the two girls eloped with their lovers and decided never to return home again. However, how they ended up on the street is still up in the air.
